Costco Wine Picks
FIND THESE JONES IS THIRSTY-APPROVED GEMS IN THE COSTCO WINE DEPARTMENT:
• 2013 Kirkland Signature, Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, CA $13
(This is one of my favorite Kirkland Signature wines year after year. I did a blind tasting with this wine against other more expensive Russian River Pinot Noirs, and the clients were blown away by it’s bang for the buck. Only a few cases left.)
• 2009, Viña Aljibes, Red Blend, Spain $9
(WA 9o pt., Talk about a super value—this wine rocks with everything from burgers to barbecue. A blend of Tempranillo, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon.)
• 2012 Alceño Premium 50, Syrah, Spain $12
(WA 92 pt., This big daddy is just what the doctor ordered for a thick ribeye steak or grilled lamb chops.)
• 2007 Dosio Vigneti, Barolo Fossati, Italy $49
(WA 92 pt., Costco is down to the last few bottles of this Italian gem. I’d like to think it’s worth buying a few to age, but it would NEVER last that long in my house. The first Italian-herb crusted roast would spell the end of all the bottles.)
• 2011 Unum, Chardonnay, CA $19
(Costco is down to the last few bottles of this rich Chardonnay, which is a terrific example of cool climate wine from the Arroyo Seco area of Monterey County. All I have to say is, “Get out the lobster!”)
